I have such a feminist boner right now.

Last month, my husband quit his job, making me & my little copywriting business solely responsible for our financial survival.

And I can’t stop cracking jokes about it.

I’ve been telling people I have a “kept man.” I make a big show of his monthly “allowance.” We have a running gag about his duties as the 2nd Gentleman.

When he showed me the two new puzzles he bought the other day, I teased him for spending all my hard-earned money on puzzles. 🤨

The *obvious* humor here is that of all the things he could be ‘blowing’ my money on, it’s fucking puzzles (I mean, what a dork)—

But these jokes seem to delight me in a way that your average, dorky, inside jokes do not.

These jokes have TEETH. 🦷🦷🦷

Every single one of them takes a tiny bite out of generations of dumbass gender stereotypes.

Every cleaning commercial featuring a thin, beautiful, smiling woman with perfect children and a sparkling house. Every sexist “wife” joke made by men in suits. Every administrative assistant who couldn’t understand the fact that we have different last names.

And THAT’S why they seem so funny to me. I’m drunk on my own power, and it’s making me giddy.

I cannot even express to you the soaring, unbridled joy it gives me to be in this position. I’m so proud of myself, I can barely contain it.

Yesterday he went to the skate park, then did some light shopping. He replaced a casserole dish because our CorningWare cracked in two this weekend. “Exactly what the 2nd gentleman should be doing,” he said.

Then, he came home and vacuumed.

I have such a feminist boner right now.

s/o to my friend Betzy Morales for coining the term “feminist boner.” 🙌🏻

(Personality included.)

Want to learn how to craft emails that inspire action and engagement WITHOUT the “tried and true” (cough: patriarchal) norms we’ve all been taught?

I’m doing it, and I can show you how to do it, too.

(But sometimes, I also like to write about the books I’m reading, or the creative process, or the entrepreneurial experience, or why I hate Steve Jobs, or how I met my BFF. I’ll send you emails like that, too.)
